Hungry Ghost Fest

I played my most personal songs for Hungry Ghost fest after asking the audience if they preferred love songs or deep cathartic songs. Whenever I ask this question people usually want the latter. It was pretty surreal to hear my voice echo off the buildings surrounding Portsmouth square. I shared how losing my brother to mental illness helped me overcome my stage-fright, which allowed me to build a support network of friends I’d see at open mic nights. After my set, an audience member shared that he lost his brother to mental illness a year ago. It always surprises me to hear that I’m not the only one who’s lost someone that way.

It all begins with an idea.
August 18th was the day I proved to myself that I could curate, produce, and promote my own event. I got my steps in running up and down the stairs to make sound board tweaks, losing pieces of the shiny gold streamers I decided to add to my costume in my introvert-forced-to-be-extrovert mania.
So many of my worlds collided that night -open mic class of 2017, the Bindlestiff fam I met from doing Stories High XXII, and even my parents.
Thanks for being a part of it! Can’t wait to plan the next one. =)
